Indian Mathematics emanated in Indian Sub-continent by the contribution of Great Mathematicians like Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Mahāvīra,Bhaskara II, Madhava of Sangamagrama and Nilakantha Somayaji.

DISCOVERIES

DECIMAL NUMBER  The decimal number which we have been using since very long time was first recorded in Indian Mathematics.

The concept of Zero used in the decimal places value was first flourished in India  and the rule Governing the use of zero appeared for the first time in the BRAHMAPUTRA SIDDHANTA  .The origin of modern decimal-based value notation was given by ARYABHATIYA.

NEGATIVE NUMBERS  during the 7th century AD, Indian Mathematician BRAHAMAGUPTA used negative numbers in his Book Brahma-Sphuta-Siddhanta which was written around 628 A

Brahmagupta also found the solution of the quadratic equation  by using negative numbers  which we still use today.

he called—

positive numbers as “fortunes”  , zero as “cipher” and negative numbers asCREDIT“.

BAUDHAYANA composed the BAUDHAYANA SULBA SUTRA which is also known as SULBA SUTRA ,contains the examples of Simple Pythagorean triplets as well as  THE THEOREM OF PYTHAGOREAN for the sides of the square .

It also contains the general statement of the Pythagorean theorem.

Baudhayana gives formulae for the square root of two.

        √2  ≈ 1 + 1/3 + 1/3.4 – 1/3.4.34=1.4142156……

 

The first complete solution ( including zero and negative solutions) to quadratic equation was Described by Brahmagupta in his book BRAHMASPHUTA-SIDDHANTA

Ramajuna worked in many fields of mathematics like algebra , inequalities ,geometry etc .
