Games with great storyline

Who says great games can’t tell great stories,Welcome to Geeknation where we will be counting down our list with games with great storyline.Story is important to some games, not all games. If you’re a big fan of, say, Bejeweled Blitz, not a lot of story, Tetris, not a lot of story, great game, really successful. The question – How important is story? – really depends on the type of game you are playing. The most important thing to a game is – Is it fun? We’ll get to fun in a minute but story adds to fun, story adds to immersion. If you’re making an RPG or a story driven game or a virtual reality then story can be exceptionally important. Here  we are focusing on games with compelling plot and characters that made it more than just a game.With the recent press conference of E3 ,many new games with great storyline were revealed

Halo is a military science fiction game that centers the war between human colonies and  alliance of aliens called covenent. The Covenant, led by their religious leaders called the Prophets, worship an ancient civilization known as the Forerunners, who perished in combat with the parasitic Flood.

The franchise focuses on the experiences of Master Chief John 117 who is a part of a group of supersoldiers named Spartans and his artificial intelligence (AI) named cortana.

The story concentrates on a meteroit hitting earth creating a hole and Unlikely upbringing of an alien entity named genova.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published by LucasArts. This game builds a perfect Star Wars experience which attracted the masses to make this game a legend.

As an average crewman in the Republic Fleet, you’re tasked with finding the captured Jedi VIP, Bastila Shan, on the city-planet of Taris, which launches you on a quest that spans the galaxy.

The Last of Us became one of the best-selling PlayStation 3 games, selling over 1.3 million units in its first week, and over eight million units within fourteen months. Considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time, it won year-end accolades, including multiple Game of the Year awards from several gaming publications, critics, and game award shows, making it one of the most awarded games in history.This games has no heroes in it,unlikely none of the characters are even likeable in  the starting of the game.This game centers on a deadly virus spread all over the world and its adverse effects on humanity.

 

 

  • THE WALKING DEAD(2012)

    The Walking Dead series is based on the comic series of the same name, but also has tied into the television series adaption of the comics. The game’s events run concurrently to the comic, starting at the onset of a zombie apocalypse, where dead humans have become undead “walkers” that feed on the living which quickly overwhelmed most of the population.

    The game’s strengths are its impeccable dialogues and excellent character development, and it’s impossible not to feel sad, guilty, or angry while playing the game.

    Just as its title implies ,this game,s plot is far more than expected.

    Originally released for the Sony Playstation 2 in the fall of 2004, the game is set in the 1960s at the height of the Cold War, chronicling the adventures of Naked Snake as he is tasked with rescuing a weapons designer and assassinating his former mentor.
  • SILENT HILL II(2001)

This game takes place on the frozen bodies of two warring gods, the Bionis and the Mechonis. The people of Bionis, including the human-like Homs, are in a perpetual war with the Machina machine race of Mechonis. Key to the Homs’ efforts in fighting the Machina’s Mechon army is the Monado, a sword said to have been wielded by the Bionis. In an attack on his colony, the main protagonist Shulk sees his childhood friend Fiora killed. Having discovered his ability to wield the Monado, he sets out on a quest for revenge.

  • THE WITCHER SERIES(2007-2015)

    The Witcher  by Andrzej Sapkowski is a series of fantasy short stories (collected in two books, except for two stories) and five novels about the witcher Geralt of Rivia.

    The first game of the series came out in 2007 named as The Witcher.This series is all about the adventures of  witcher Geralt of rivia,who is considered as one of the most brutal demon hunter of that time.

    The sequel,The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, was released in May 2011. The latest game in the Witcher series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Wild Hunt, was released in May 2015.

    To the moon is primarily about exploring Johnny’s memories to find significant objects and collect energy from them to strengthen the memory and connect to a more distant one, from Johnny’s old age leading back to his childhood. Occasionally, the player will have to explore Johnny’s house and the surrounding area for certain clues, if they cannot gather enough energy from a certain memory, or don’t know how to proceed to a further one.

    The story follows travel agent Manuel “Manny” Calavera as he attempts to save Mercedes “Meche” Colomar, a newly arrived but virtuous soul, during her long journey.

    Red Dead Redemption is an open world, western style  action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. It was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles in May 2010. It is the second title in the Red Dead franchise, after 2004’s Red Dead Revolver. The game, set during the decline of the American Frontier in the year 1911,which  follows John Marston, a former outlaw whose wife and son are taken hostage by the government in ransom for his services as a hired gun. Having no other choice, Marston sets out to bring the three members of his former gang to justice.

    Gunfights emphasize a gunslinger gameplay mechanic called “Dead Eye” that allows players to mark multiple shooting targets on enemies in slow motion. The game makes use of a morality system, by which the player’s actions in the game affect their character’s levels of honor and fame and how other characters respond to the player.

    Chrono Trigger is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square Enix for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995.Chrono Trigger was a critical and commercial success upon release and is frequently cited as one of the best video games of all time because of its excellent storyline.

    The player controls the protagonist and his companions in the game’s 2D fictional world, consisting of various forests, cities, and dungeons. Navigation occurs via an overworld map, depicting the landscape from a scaled down overhead view.

  • SPEC OPS:THE LINE(2012)

    Spec Ops: The Line is a 2012 third-person shooter video game developed by the German studio Yager Development and published by 2K Games. 2K Games earlier gave us many fine games such as Mafia series,which is considered as a deep story driven action packed game in the world of crime.

    It is the 10th title, and a reboot, of the Spec Ops series, and the first entry since Spec Ops: Airborne Commando in 2002. Spec Ops: The Line is a third-person shooter that follows Captain Martin Walker, who is on a mission to rescue the citizens of Dubai, which has been overrun by sandstorms.

    This game is still considered as the best game in the assassins creed series.The game shows the development of ezio auditore so finely that the critics and the gamers still love the way it was potrayed.

In this the player controlls the  Los Angeles Police Department(LAPD) officer, to solve a range of cases across five divisions.This game is Dark and is an excellent representation of highly acclaimed detective techniques that are used to solve the cases.

    Players must investigate crime scenes for clues, follow up leads, and interrogate suspects, and the player’s success at these activities will impact how much of each case’s story is revealed.

    The Player takes the role of Chell in the single-player campaign, as one of two robots—Atlas and P-Body—in the cooperative campaign, or as a simplistic humanoid icon in community-developed puzzles. These four characters can explore and interact with the environment. Excellent gameplay mechanics and a science driven storytelling made this game a favorite to the collection of gamers all around the globe.

    Fallout is a series of post-apocalyptic role-playing video games. It was created by Interplay Entertainment. Although the series is set during the 22nd and 23rd centuries, its atompunk retrofuturistic setting and artwork are influenced by the post-war culture of 1950s America, and its combination of hope for the promises of technology, and lurking fear of nuclear annihilation.

    Recent news at E3 confirmed the VR version of Fallout 4.

  • GTA SERIES(1997-2013)

    Grand Theft Auto is an open world action-adventure video game series primarily developed by Rockstar North, and published by Rockstar Games.Each game in this series allows players to take on the role of a criminal in the big city, typically an individual who plans to rise through the ranks of organized crime through the course of the game.

    The player is given various missions by kingpins and major idols of the city underworld which must be completed to progress through the storyline. Assassinations along with loots and other violent crimes are featured regularly through the course of the game. Occasionally the player can enjoy taxi driving, firefighting, street racing, bus driving, or learning to fly helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft are also involved in the game.

  • BATMAN ARKHAM SERIES(2009-2015)

    Batman: Arkham is a series of action-adventure video games based on the DC Comics character Batman, developed by Rocksteady Studios  and WB Games Montréal, and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

    The first game, Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009), focuses on Batman trying to prevent Joker from destroying Gotham City after he takes control of Arkham Asylum and is forced to contend with numerous other villains he has incarcerated. The second game,Arkham City (2011), is set a year later, after Hugo Strange expands Arkham into a massive super-prison. Batman is incarcerated and must uncover the secret behind Strange’s evil scheme, “Protocol 10”, while also dying from an illness inflicted by Joker through the course of the game.

    Arkham Origins (2013) is a prequel set seven years before the events of Arkham Asylum in which a younger and less experienced Batman  deals with the bounty that has been placed on him by crime lord Black Mask . The fourth installment,Batman: Arkham Knight (2015), is Rocksteady’s conclusion to the series.  It is set one year after the events of Arkham City, Arkham Knight sees Batman facing Scarecrow along with the mysterious Arkham Knight and his militia.
