What all colors can you identify with your eyes, white, red, black and the basic ones? But do you know the color spectrum has colors beyond your imagination, and no one can identify them with their naked eyes except CONCETTA ANTICO?
Concetta Antico, who lives in San Diego, California, has more receptors in her eyes to absorb color, enabling her to see more colors. Wait! how much more colors? Let’s find out.
The average person can see one million colors, whereas she can see 99 million. This is due to a genetic condition called Tetrachromacy.
Tetrachromacy is a condition of possessing four independent channels for conveying color information – four different types of cone cells in the eye. WOW!
She paints animals and landscapes to show others what she sees.
When she looks at a leaf, she sees much more than the green color that we see. “Around the edge, I’ll see orange or red or purple in the shadow; you might see dark green but I’ll see violet, turquoise, blue,” she said. “It’s like a mosaic of color.”
“It’s shocking to me how little color people are seeing,” she said.
“You might see dark green but I’ll see violet, turquoise, blue. It’s like a mosaic of color.”
“The difference between the color dimensions perceived by a tetrachromat and someone with normal vision is not as dramatic as the difference between someone who is colorblind and someone with normal vision,” according to Kimberly Jameson, a cognitive scientist at the Institute for Mathematical Behavioral Sciences at the University of California at Irvine.
Also, based on her genes Jameson has determined that Antico’s fourth cone absorbs wavelengths that are “reddish-orangey-yellow.
